Mom’s Post #2:  September 16

I heard from Layne earlier today.  She stated today is much, much better.  I’m assuming that means calmer waters and tummies!  Yesterday was still a little bit rough but she made it to her classes.  Otherwise, she slept most of the day.  She went to a seminar last night where some of the professors talked about why they are doing this particular voyage and it was so very interesting.  I personally cannot wait to her more about this seminar from her.

Layne stated staff has finally opened the outside decks so they got to go out for a few minutes between lunch and class.  She’s hoping for more outside time later today too!

Layne’s classes start at 1pm and end at 5pm.  She’s not really liking that part (although I’m guessing if Nathan’s schedule is the same he’s LOVING it!).  Layne’s more inclined to be a morning person for ‘work’ and afternoon/evening is the time to play/leisure.  She has filled her morning reading and taking notes (I’m hoping some of those notes are BLOG posts she’ll be sharing with all of us).

On a side note, today marks  20 years since Layne, Lakyn and MiKayla came home from their six week hospital stay after birth.  I guess that means it’s their 20th “GOTCHA DAY” (right Carter, Griffen and Nolan?).  If you would have told me 20 years ago that our little 2 lb 13 oz baby (Layne really is the ‘baby’ of the three) would be traveling abroad in 20 years, well, let’s just say neither Scott nor I would have believed you.  We have been blessed for 20 years with these three beauties and look forward to the adventures they will take us on the next 20+ years.

Love and Hugs to Layne and Nathan from Landlocked North Dakota.!

PS:  I just heard from Layne as I was ending my post.  She stated they just went through the Strait of Gibraltar tonight (which means her time is 7 hours ahead of us now).  She said they could see Spain and Morocco at the same time.  It was amazing!  It was an eight mile stretch that you can see both coasts.  Truly amazing and breathtaking experience!

They are headed to Civitavecchia, Italy and expect to arrive there on September 19th.
