Happy Thursday, friends! I’m so, so excited to share Arthur and Rachel’s badlands engagement session on the blog! Before I share the details of their shoot, I have to say that I have definitely been ignoring my blog lately. Even though I love sharing my sessions here, it’s always one of the first things I choose to drop when things get crazy. I won’t complain about this season, but I will acknowledge that it’s been absolutely INSANE in the best ways. My summer has been filled with weddings (both as a photographer and a guest), portrait sessions, and lots of quality time with family and friends. 🙂 Anyways, back to Art & Rachel …

When Rachel and I started planning their engagement session, she told me she LOVED our mutual friends’, Evan & Sadie’s, photos in the Badlands (see their session HERE). So I said, let’s shoot there! It’s one of the most beautiful places in North Dakota and the texture of the landscape plays so well with any vibe, whether it’s formal or casual. Rachel asked me if I thought it would be weird if she wore a long red dress, and I said absolutely not! (I think we can all agree that was the absolute perfect outfit choice for her).

What I love most about the Badlands is how wild it is — and always changing. In the spring and summer, it’s lush and green, and by the start of September, it’s mostly brown and dry. I love shooting there no matter what it looks like! President Theodore Roosevelt said it best:

“I grow very fond of this place, and it certainly has a desolate, grim beauty of its own, that has a curious fascination for me.”

Arthur & Rachel, I had the best time shooting with you in one of my favorite places. You are the most beautiful couple, and your love is so evident! It was a gift to see and experience it. 🙂 Thank you so much for choosing me to be your engagement photographer!
