James + Jamie | North Dakota Sunset Maternity Session

June 16, 2016

James + Jamie + Baby A

James and Jamie had just celebrated their 10 year anniversary a few weeks before we got together for their maternity session. Jamie says they knew as soon as they were married that they wanted to start a family. After a few years of trying, they met with an infertility specialist, but that journey was put on hold after Jamie was diagnosed with Stage 3 melanoma.

Two surgeries, a tumor, and two lymph nodes removed later, they were confident they had gotten it all, and Jamie began her five year treatment plan. The doctors recommended that they wait until treatment was over to start trying again for a baby, and James and Jamie knew that God had a bigger plan for them when treatment was over.

Fast forward to 2016 – the five year mark. To their surprise, James and Jamie are not only celebrating five years of being cancer-free, but are getting the greatest blessing and gift of all: their sweet baby girl. They can’t wait until the precious baby that they have been praying and waiting for for 10 years is finally in their arms.

James and Jamie, there are no words to express how happy I am for the two of you. I have no doubt that you are going to be the best mommy and daddy to this bundle of joy + the answer to your prayers. Thank you for letting me capture this stage of your life – I can’t wait to snuggle Baby A when she gets here. 🙂

James and Jamie kept their pregnancy a secret until they got their families together at Christmastime. Of course there was no arguing that Baby A was the best gift of all. 🙂 A lot of tears and laughs were shared and the announcement came as quite a shock to both of their families!

A few months later they invited their closest friends and family members to get together for a gender reveal party which I was also fortunate enough to capture. We had a bouquet of pink and blue balloons with a big black balloon in the center filled with confetti – pink or blue. I set up my camera, we counted to three, they stuck pins in the black balloon, and PINK confetti went everywhere! Both James and Jamie were quite surprised to see pink as they both thought Baby A was going to be a boy. 😉

Jamie says she has loved every moment of her pregnancy, but the hardest part has been not being able to satisfy her constant craving for sweets. Darn gestational diabetes. 😉

Jamie says she has never been happier and cannot wait to meet their little girl. She is most looking forward to seeing her daddy hold her for the first time. 🙂
